My Surrey Nest, University of Surrey
Surrey University reacted to student consultation to create an accessible wellness area named ‘My Surrey Nest’ for collaboration, relaxation and study. Working with renowned UK office designers Morgan Lovell, Artworks were selected to bring this idea to life. A bold colour scheme mixed with living walls and an array of seating made this a unique and stylish space.

Alto acoustic lattice
Practicality was key in what would need to be a durable and functional place to hang out. We installed ceiling acoustic features using Alto acoustic lattice to dampen sound – providing an ideal environment for Zoom calls. In some ways this presented a real challenge for the team, as unique junctions were needed to incorporate the lighting. Working closely with the other suppliers on site however, made this a smooth operation.

Faux neon signage
Our Novawall system brought texture and character to the walls, as well as bright yellow faux neon signs applied to surfaces including a foliage wall and corrugated metal. Manifest on glazing added privacy whilst still allowing light from outside, and a suspended illuminated sign at the entrance ensured round-the-clock visibility. Students could finally have somewhere to meet that reflected their needs and responded to modern ways of working.

Collaboration zones are demarcated with bright and colourful touches; from bright blue meeting pods and yellow carpet under the collaboration desks, to the stylish transfers on the meeting room glass. These colour splashes help with wayfinding and creating a sense of identity in the area, but also provide that subconscious creative burst through the use of colour.
