Senior Flexonics

With sustainability and collaboration at the heart of this project, we needed to transform a large industrial unit into a space that represents both Senior Flexonics and the local area, while being functional for all areas of the business.

The identity of both Senior Flexonics and the local South Wales area was a key focus for this project. With the company merging into a singular space for all of their teams, it was a huge opportunity to celebrate what Senior Flexonics does and where they come from.

We worked closely with teams at Wylde IA and SF to explore a brand package across ARTWORKS and ALTO products that took elements from SF’s engineering products to create company timelines, patterns, as well as product display areas. We even made a bespoke company wall using ALTO, where each employee could sign a chip and slot it back into the wall, to capture the people, community and collaboration at the heart of Senior Flexonics’ new home.

The local South Wales landscape was proudly displayed through our choice of imagery and materials. Coincidentally, a Managing Director at SF happened to be a keen photographer, and was subsequently able to provide the majority of images used for printed ALTO Tex and frames, with remaining imagery contributed by a well-known local photographer. In some areas, steel from Port Talbot was also used, to truly incorporate local materials and skills.

There was a previous project nearby that both ourselves and Wylde IA had worked on, who were moving site and no longer had use for their furniture and acoustics. In an effort to greatly improve sustainability for our SF project, we made the decision to reuse and repurpose everything. With the unit being so open plan, acoustic treatment was fundamental; We were grateful to have such a large selection of ALTO products from this previous project to disassemble and redesign. There was one particular ALTO Grid that was so large, we were able to create a total of 10 new ALTO Grids for SF. By reusing ALTO throughout the space, we significantly reduced waste, carbon footprint, and cost.

A considered approach to acoustics, signage, graphics and artwork ensured all elements worked together to improve how the space is used day to day. ALTO helps to keep echoes and high noise levels in check across open-plan areas and meeting rooms, making the environment more comfortable and easier to focus in. Clear signage and wayfinding make it easier to navigate the building, helping staff and visitors move easily between production, office and meeting spaces. Then graphics and artwork bring consistency and a sense of identity throughout, tying the spaces together and reinforcing company culture. As SF had never all been in the same building until now, it was crucial that the space accommodated everyone and each team’s individual needs, hence a focus on multiple ways of working, as well as creating a space that staff would be proud to work in.

Senior Flexonics now has a flagship hub that celebrates both the business and its local area, bringing all teams together in one collaborative, productive space. Shaped to grow alongside their teams, it also uses sustainable materials to help build a more responsible future beyond the workplace.
